Handgun Training
Nearly all violent attacks occur at ‘social’ distances. Our handgun training courses will expose students to handgun manipulation, marksmanship fundamentals and tactics using minimal classroom time and extensive live fire exercises. This training will provide concerned citizens with the skills and tactics necessary to gain a significant advantage over aggressive attackers during life-threatening encounters.
NC Concealed Carry
Defensive Concepts North Carolina conducts North Carolina Concealed Carry Handgun Training for those wishing to apply for their permits in NC. The class is an 8-hour class with classroom training, video training and a handgun proficiency test.
Successful course completion will result in a certificate to be submitted with application for North Carolina CCH Permit.
NRA Basic Pistol
The NRA Basic Pistol course is designed to give first time shooters a wealth of knowledge in the safe and proper use of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Topics included in this one day course include: fundamental safety rules, shooting stances, firing grips, firearm upkeep, ammunition selection, and other essential skills. Students completing this course will receive a certificate from the NRA in addition to printed materials useful for future studying.
NRA Personal Protection Inside The Home
The NRA Personal Protection Inside the Home course is designed to give the student with the physical and mental skills to employ a pistol in the defense of their residence against a felonious assault.
Topics covered in the course include: Proper mindset, practical pistol handling, developing a plan of action to counter home invasions, and other life-saving skills.
Students completing this course will receive a certificate from the NRA in addition to printed materials useful for future reference.
NRA Personal Protection Outside The Home
The NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home course is designed to give the student with the physical and mental skills to employ a pistol in the defense of their residence against a felonious assault.

NRA Law Enforcement Pistol
The NRA Law Enforcement Pistol course is designed to teach law enforcement officers how to use their sidearms in a safe and effective manner and to sharpen the officer’s existing skill base.
- Material taught includes:
- Marksmanship fundamentals
- Drawstroke refinement
- Target areas
- Shoot/No-shoot decision making
- Shooting on the move
- Malfunction clearance
- Injured officer drills
- Use of cover and concealment
This course is highly customizable and is taught to suit the needs of the class host. The course can range from a one day “skill refresher” course to a comprehensive week long “handgun operator” course. We can also cover undercover officer skills if desired.

Defensive Handgun
The Defensive Handgun course will expose students to proper handgun manipulations, marksmanship fundamentals and tactics using minimal classroom time and extensive live fire exercises. This course will provide concerned citizens with the skills and tactics necessary to gain a significant advantage over aggressive attackers during life-threatening encounters.
The following principles will be strongly reinforced throughout the course:
- Know and adhere to the real world safety rules that govern professional firearms handling.
- Only accurate hits on target can decide the fight in your favor – therefore accuracy is King.
- You are accountable for every round you fire – squeeze the trigger as if your life depends on it because it does.
Defensive Handgun II
Defensive Handgun II seamlessly picks up where Defensive Handgun I ends. Students will receive training that further refines their marksmanship fundamentals and introduces new skills. Material to be covered includes: shooting on the move, multiple target engagement, shoot/no-shoot decision making, and the proper use of cover.
Defensive Handgun: One Hand Operation
The Defensive Handgun: One Hand Operation course focuses on increasing the student’s ability to effectively operate his handgun using only one hand. This course will enable the student to draw, reload, engage threats, and do other tasks using the only one hand. The material taught will cover weapon manipulation using only the dominant and support hands.
Prerequisites:
Completion of Defensive Handgun I or equivalent (email for approval).
Defensive Handgun: Shooting on the Move
The Defensive Handgun: Shooting on the Move (SOTM) course focuses on increasing the student’s ability to effectively use a handgun during defensive situations while moving. Material to be covered includes: forward/rearward/lateral movement, clearing malfunctions on the move, use of cover, weapon transitions, and multiple target engagement.
Introduction to Red Dot Handguns
The Introduction to Red Dot Handguns course is designed to expose shooters to the use of miniature red dot sights on modern handguns over a two-day period. During the course students will be exposed to the following:
- Characteristics of miniature red dot sights
- Preventative maintenance for the RDS
- Zeroing the red dot
- Acquiring the dot during the draw stroke
- Shooting from various positions
- Shooting effectively when the dot fails
- Shooting with one hand
- Shooting on the move
- Shooting at night
*A red dot equipped handgun is required for this course. If you do not have one, there are a limited number of loaner guns are available. Please contact us prior to registering for the course to check on loaner handgun availability*
