Suicide

January 15, 2018|Defensive Concepts

Over the years we have come to know a number of awesome people. While we are unable to keep track of what each of these people have done with themselves, occasionally we get an update and its awesome that people to choose to keep us in the loop of their lives. A tradeoff of the good news that we receive is that we also hear about the bad things that happen in people’s lives. This weekend we learned that a former student committed suicide. While we were only around him for a short time he struck us as an awesome guy and, from what his friends have said, he was a phenomenal mentor, teacher, brother, and friend.

He wasn’t the only person I’ve known to commit suicide. Starting in high school, I’ve had multiple friends and associates choose to take their own lives. Each person could easily be described in a similar manner as to the person I initially spoke of. With that being said, let me get to the point of all of this.

If you ever find yourself at the point where you are thinking about hurting or killing yourself, talk to someone about it. It doesn’t have to be some hotline staffed by an anonymous call taker…..it can be anyone. Simply get whatever is bothering you off your chest. You can even contact me or Steve if need be; our contact information is out there for you guys.

To people that are dealing with the aftermath of a suicide: don’t beat yourself up or try to find fault with yourself for what has happened. It was the victim’s choice to end his life and the people that typically do this, hide their intentions VERY well.

Until next time……
