Let me start this by simply posting a video.
Now let me post a video that defends what we see in video #1.
During video #2, the narrator says that there is no mention of there not being shooters downrange when discussing the safety rules and technically he is correct. He then brings up the fact that is a real world situation there may be people standing downrange from you that don’t need to be shot and again, he is correct. However he misses a very important fact.
- He misses the fact that there is a WORLD of DIFFERENCE between a real world situation where firearms are used and an OPEN ENROLLMENT TRAINING COURSE that has countless UNVETTED shooters often with VERY LITTLE to NO skill with a firearm. By looking at the first video, you can tell that several of the shooters don’t possess a lot of skill.
As one of my mentors Ken Hackathorn once said; “
-
firearms training is dangerous, but it shouldn’t be unsafe”
. What we see in video #1 is completely unsafe. The biggest contributor to this lack of safety is the fact that the erratic movement of the wheelchair has it is forced through the sea of shotgun hulls like a Icebreaker plowing its way through the Arctic Circle causes uncontrolled movement in the shooter’s hands. This uncontrolled movement is exhibit by the obvious movement in his hands and the erratic impact of the rounds on the berm. In fact, his third shot appears to strike the berm closer to the target standing to the left of his. It is a miracle no one was shot during this and there’s not a video that can explain how this is safe or acceptable.
In closing, if you are in a class and see something like this happening, don’t be afraid to call ceasefire and get the situation sorted out. If someone calls you a pussy because “this is what happens in the real world…” throw the bullshit flag and walk away. The grandstanding done by certain members of the tactical community is going to lead to even more people being injured in classes.
Until next time……..
