What Are You Waiting For?

July 14, 2016|Defensive Concepts, Kit, News, Safety, Training

In case you have missed it; there’s a lot of crap happening right now. We have had another major terrorist attack (Orlando), the FBI deciding not to pursue charges for the mishandling of classified information, numerous protests in major cities, and the presidential election is only a few months away. With all of that underway and looming in the immediate future; are you training? Do you have your weapons and kit sorted out for the most part? I ask this for several reasons and let’s look at them for a minute.

We all complain about panic buying don’t we? Well; if you are the guy that plans on waiting until the election of the results are in, you’re going to be picking at what remains on the shelves like a Venezuelan looking for food in a supermarket in downtown Caracas. Prioritize what you need to buy (food, parts, nylon gear, etc) and start picking it up while its available. Depending on how things go; some items may not be coming back in stock at any point. Also, keep in mind I said to prioritize what you NEED; not what you WANT. The needs to be met first….keep that in mind.

Second; with the way violence seems to be flaring up this summer you have got to be out there training. That means using the guns and kit you realistically think you’ll be using in a fight. That means that not every range session will have you out bounding around with all your kit on with millions of rounds being fired from your long gun.  It means that you might shoot some with all you cool guy kit on. At your next range session you are working on skills focused around your concealed carry set up. Another session might have you using a long gun supplemented by only your concealed carry gear.  It’s time to ditch the fantasy thoughts and leap into reality with both feet. Watch the news, see how people are being attacked. Do some research and see how people have handled similar events in the past (think of citizens’ action during the 1992 LA riots) and create a training plan from there. You have to start thinking through this stuff now……..if you wait; then you’ll be so far behind the power curve when you’re experiencing violence that you may not be able to recover from it.

So what are you waiting for? Start working on this stuff now and hope that you never need it.
